At what age is my dog or cat considered to be senior?

Time flies much faster for our furry family members. When they are about 11-years-old, most cats are considered to be seniors and those over 14-years-old are seen as geriatric. Our canine pals reach senior age at approximately 7 to 11-years-old. That being said, you may find that your pet still behaves very much like a puppy or kitten even though their fur is graying. Through routine checkups, we can ensure that they continue to feel this way!

How should I care for my senior pet?

First, we cannot stress enough the importance of having your pet come in for full-body exams every 6 to 12 months. This way, we can promptly diagnose any underlying issues, and prescribe the appropriate medications and treatments. Then, what you do at home also makes a significant impact. You can help keep your pet at a healthy weight and ensure that they get physical exercise and mental stimulation through low-impact activities like swimming and by getting them to do tricks or play with engaging toys.
